TRENTHAM RACES

A Review of the Running

Possibilities for Perturbed Punters

(Special by "Spearmint")

The Wellington Racing Club has had two good day's racing so far, and If the weather holds up there should be another big crowd at Trentbam today (Saturday). The train arrangements are similar to those of the opening day, and will be found most convenient.

At the time of writing the acceptances have not been made public, but a fair idea can be gathered as to which horses should show up m their respective races.

The day's sport will commence with the Talavera Hurdles, 1% miles. Tho useful Golden March is at the top of the handicap, and if he is produced he will be very hard to beat, as he has now struck form and won well at his last start over hurdles.

Sir Solo can also be expected to Improve, and so can Amber and White, whose best has not been seen yet. Portland Lady may not be started, and if not, Ormesby will be on hand, for he' will be out by himself with nothing to worry him over the first part

If Besogne is produced. ln the Onslow Handicap, B furlongs, there will be heavy betting on the chestnut, who Is very smart and a likely Winter Cup proposition. Glenroy is very slick over a short course, and what is more, likes the mud. Toro Toro was not at his best on Thursday and cannot be left out of consideration. Otara seems to be going off, but Mandoline may do better than she did on the opening day, when she showed great pace, but did not go on with it The shorter distance to-day should suit her. The Hack Steeples field is not likely to be a big one, and if Queen's Post Is reserved for it' she should easily hold her own, even though she has had plenty of racing lately and cannot be said to. be Improving on it. Oratonu was going very well when he sold out on the first day, and may be m the fighting- line at the finish today. Precious Metal is another that should be up with, the leaders at the last fence. In the Crofton Handicap,, seven fur- . longs, Maid o* Gowrte Is top weight, with 11.2. The Birkenhead mare would ' have been a good thing if set for this handicap after the first day, but she had a gruelling race on the middle day and may not saddle up as well as her trainer would wish for. Comely is on the improve all the' time, and Aurora has a great private reputation, but, so far, has proved a cheat. Kukri Is a fresh horse, a^nd Rio should be wherever Comely is at the finish. Coral King is another horse that is supposed to have bee"n unlucky .on the opening day. Wirokino will be the favorite m the big Steplechase if his owner elects to start th£ hollow-backed chestnut. He' is improving with every race, and his great jumping materially assists him. Fagot is sure to get round and can be depended upon to be thereabouts at tho finish. Bransfield wIH also be well up and each race is bringing him on. New York, 10.2, looked to bo unlucky on the opening day, and~a duel between.' him and Wirokino win be interesting; , Merry Lad was going extra -well when be chanced a jump half a mile from home on the opening day. If he reproduces his form he will give the other a hard race. Of the remainder, Vascular may be hard.., as on two occasions on the opening day ho»got into trouble. In the Winter Oats, 1 mile, Kooya, Multifual and George are all nicely! treated, and if started should give^good accounts of themselves. Lower down the list Sedd-el-Bahr and Jean Laddo stand out, and on their previous form ' they must be reckoned with. The Final Hurdles will be a good race. Styrax, 11.4, Is certain to run well, so will PursefUJer and Marconi. Crib jumped badly on Wednesday but most likely win do [a lot bettor today. Crown Pearl should be improved by hla first days rac* when he -was m the fighting line until three furlongs from home. Gladful will also do better, as on Wednesday he got into a couple of fences.

The curtain will be runs down with the Kla Ora Handicap, 5 furlongs. Golden Glade ran a great race on Thursday, It should be remembered that Martyresa was carried out wide In Thursday's race. Porrler showed up well on tho opening day and was a winner at five furlongs. Colonado naa been running consistently and was Just outside the placed division on the two Qrst days.
