TRIAL BY JURY.

If a certain slab, of current rumor m Christchurch la true, then it's about time tho jury system of dealing with criminal cases had its brains brushed. It has been stated m connection with tho recent Supreme Court sittings at Christchurch that one of the acquitted was duo to a Jury who, on entering tho jury room, had decided, by a nine to threo majority that the prisoner was not guilty. On the evidence being chewed over, the disssentients were narrowed down until only one snick out for a verdict of guilty. Then up spake a Salvarmy Juror, sueeestinj; that tha jury should offer up a- prayer for Inspiration and guidance. Tno diversion was indulged La and tho obstinate Juror eventually swivelled Into lino with tho others.
