Placed together they speak Volumes to those tvho" understand the powers that b© m New Zealand: "The Tutanekai; which is to be recommissioned m order to become n vice-regal ship, is to leave Wellington for Lyttelton next Monday. She afterwards leaves on . a cruise round the North Island, Vlth his. Excellency the Governor and suite on board. In future tho Tutonekal , will carry a permanent chief officer, ,fhls having been decided upon on account of the fact that she is likely to remain more or less permanently m commission. Th© vessel is still conamaiuled'by Captain Post." "Mr. Herbert Samuel, Secretary of State for Home Affairs, declares that the appeal for national thrift lias fallen on deaf oars, and that nothing 1 short of severe taxation will be effectual m bringing tho people to a proper sense of their responsibilities."
