INVERCARGILL

RUGBY. The second Wednesday m April will be the opening duy of the Invercargill football season. The financial position of the I.F.C. appears to be good. Though much doletlon has taken place m the active ranks; a big influx of fresh blood augurs well for the future. Mr. R. D. Isaacs had a lot to sny unent coaching, what was generally acceptable. R. D. was very correct m expressing the hope that the game bo kept alive during the present critical porlod. Mr. Isaacs was rc-appolnted coach. The Waikiwi Club will open the game :on April 14. Mr. Grolg, the chairman, had a lot

of, sensible things to say which generally bear endorsement. The club was m a strong position financially. Last season the senior 15 played rotten. They wouldn't play because they couldn't. Let them buck up this time and not make old granny cats of themselves. Practice and strenuous seriousness are essentials for all members of the game. The death of Mr. R. Morris affected the club considerably. Bob was the popular Waikiwi captain. Many members of the Waikiwi club are away rounding up the Kaiser; may their ammunition never run out, or their oil rags dry. What will the Kaiser think when he hears the strange cry "Waikiwi!" resouncf through the hills of Potsdam! \ "A number of people were m favor of cancelling all kinds of sport during the war, but I am opposed to it." That from Mr. Greig, which sounds the right note. . "Truth" observes -that the Waikiwi secretary is no other than our oldtimer, Mr. Martin Lavelles. Glad to see you there, Martin, old man. Keep Waikiwi on the right side every time. The pleasant family paper will always retain hefty recollections of Waikiwi, as there are sports and few wowsers down there. Go on, Awarua! Last season's playing, like Dunedin, was nearly rotten. It's hard, of course, to improve a rotten thing, except by the addition of something fresh. In any case Invercargill has plenty of fresh blood this time, and something can probably be made of it.
