A SYDENHAM EPISTLE.

Dear Maude. — I know you'll be frightfully sorry to hear that we got burnt out last week. U could have been much worse however. Baby upset the lamp and before you could cry even, the place wab ablaze. Baby's handß and face were torn a bit, but rho's getting along now. Of course, Jim was very upset when he got homo from work. I've bought all now linen and clothes out of the insurance money, which was paid over by the Liver pool, London and Globe Insurance Co. last wceK. They settled very promptly. You'd be surprised at the quantity of stuff you can get for a few pounds at Gills, of SydenuatrU My linen bill came to £5 14s, and really I've got enough to last me for 3 or 4 years. Fancy getting large Turkish towels at 8d each, serviettes 3 for a shilling, calico 4s lid a dozen yards, and flannelette 3s lid a dozen yards. I bought a lovely white satin bed quilt for 8s 6d! I thought it wsie much more than that.. And I've also treated myself to a tapestry table-cover for 9s lid. Jim's very pleased with all I've bought, and that says a lot, because you know how he growls as a rule. At alj events I'm going to do all my shopping at Gills, of Sydenham, for the future*
