PROPOSED CONFERENCE OF ALLIED POWERS.

In reference to the possibility of a Conference m London, m the near future, of representatives of the Allied Powers, to discuss policy and national questions arising out of the war, "Truth's" London correspondent says: Very few people think that the Allies will fall out, or that acute 'dlssonslon will set m as to the terms of peace. Allies proverbially fall out. But this exceptional war will make an exception of this, proverb. This particular Conference is merely being discussed, and no conclusion has yet been reached about holding it. No such Conference would be quite complete without inviting representatives from the Empire. 1915 is the year for the Imperial Conference. Some may think ihat this is not the time to discuss Imperial questions. They are shortsighted. Britain has not gone into the war singlehanded. This war has developed the Imperial idea, and consolidated tho Empire, with a rapidity which has accomplished more In a few months than we have witnessed m twico as many years. An Imperial Conference would he especially appropriate In 1915, and would be eminently useful If it took place m conjunction with life proposed Conference of tfio Allied Powers. The Dominions have long claimed the right of sharing our responsibilities, and it Is thought over here that the Dominions must be consulted about the settlement of the European question. There will be great changes. Foreign policy will be overhauled. Imperial Defence will have to be oxamlned afresh: and if 1915 passes without a Conference of some sort of the Empire's representatives, a great opportunity will have been missed.
