CHRISTCHURCH.
Last ' Saturday's League ordinary fixtures were suspended on account of a couple of benefit mutches which the League management had arranged to play m aid of the Open Air Fund. Sydenham. the loading team m the Thacker Shield competitions, did battle with a team selected from the other four clubs In the Association. The Federal and Linwood teams duated up on behalf of the second division, m aid of tho same cause. The senior match was productive of some Splashes of brilliance*, but the combination of the Sydenham pack was suporior. to that of the combined team, and the former notched a 9 to 5 victory. Mitchell and Boon were the pick of the combined team's backs. Thejr tackling- was quite "out of tho hat." Of the losers' vanguard, Smith and Shanks wcro. rather above the surface of a fairly oven lot. Watts, as halfback, also gave a good exhibition. Sydenham waa well represented by Kinton, Eaton, and Robinson. Tho Llnwood-Federal junior match was won by Linwood, the scores being 9 points to S points.
