The Southland Club's second meet came off successfully last Wednesday at the Plumpton on the race course. Weather conditions were very good, so good gates wero registered. A particularly pleasing item was tho good going condition of the horses — a marked improvement on the' Dunedin meet. Mr. Irving acted as Judge, giving overy satisfaction.' The slips were held by Mr. Watty, Broad, every; course going off sweetly. . The Maiden, opened by Star of Papanul betbting Star of Diamonds. Star of Diamonds led well, turning first easily. Star of Diamonds killed on her opponent's turn. Star of Papanui 1. Star of Diamonds 2. , Fairlake beat Grcygown. Fairlake ! left the slips well stumed. Groygown i part turned and the hare homed. Fairlake 4%, Greygown 1. On a very interesting course, Bugle King beatiKelsyth by a margin. Bugle King warmed with the race immediately, leading by many lengths. The decision went to Bugle King on tho matter of speed. Kilts beat Great Western. The final took three runs to decide. In the first, Star of Papanui and Bugle King raced neck and neck, and a Joint kill took place without turning puss.
