The streets w^gre lined with mounted police and many others were held m reserve m case -of emergency. Crowds iof people gathered m - Featherston:strcet and along- the. wharf gat^es through which the blacklegs would enter. There was much i>oo-hooing" '; " AS CULLEN'S COSSACKS i marched past," but no serious disturbance took place. The faces vf the strikers anil their sympathisers tn the crowds were set, stern and defiant, and It could easily be .seen that they were chafing at their j compulsory impotence.
