COUNTRY RECRUITS.

Victims of Misrepresentation. Important Statement by -a ''Special" Constable.

On Thursday forenoon just as "Truth" was preparing to go to press for its 'country edition- a "special" constable bailing from Hawke's Bay supplied the following interesting j statement:—. "I came. from Hawke's Bay and 1 am a special constable, I was misled by the false statements appearing m country papers as to the true condition of things m Wellington. It was asserted that our cheese- and butter were being thrown into ' the sea and the strikers were runnin? riot througfh the city breaking and Yburning wherever they could. 1 came down with, eight other fanning lads, every one of whom is disgusted at the way we have been deceive^ and on the first opportunity offering we will all go back home. I might also.say. that we are not the only ones. I have heard similar statements , made by many other of the BETTER CLASS "SPECIALS" amongst us. I assure ,yo_i city workers that we sons of farmers are not here to bolster up the Union Steam Ship Company or any other company m then- quarrel with their men. Our mission was to save that wnich -a c as workers had produced by our own labor on our farms, and which the lying agents o? the authorities informed us was being . RL-THLESSLY DESTROYED by the watersid? workers. . We have ! been completely dteillusemed, and this unpleasant fact, together with the knowledge that the longer we are detained m Wellington the more our fnrms will suiter from neglect, is haying a very disquieting effect upon many. If an unblas_3-_ ed statement of ths case could he -prepared and gotf lato the hands of the country boys lip tn Mount Cook 1 am positive the great majority of them would . speedily make tracks back I and my mates from Hawke's Bay wish the watersiders every 'success m this fight."
