THE LEAGUE.

Unlike the local Union, the Wellington League has not published a statement. of its finances. It the League wishes to make friends of the football public, it had better take those who supply the sinews of war into its confidence. This is. the policy of the N.S.W. League, a short resume of whose accounts will make interesting reading. The total amount of cash handled during last season was £14,6-19. made up as follows: Gate\ receipts, £13,0-17; season . tickets, £1361; rights, £241. During the j year district clubs received out of gate proceeds £4171. •' The main expenditure was occasioned by the vital principles of the League, viz.: Representative players loss of time and expenditure, £603; sick pay, £1206; medical expenses, £269; outfits, £276; referees 1 allowances, £492; and' grants to affiliated clubs and branches amounted to £39G. The amount paid m ground reqt was £2057. The tour of New Zealand at the end of last season resulted m a loss of £471. The League's cash balance Is £1787 10s. / The above will make players realise what a mammoth financial institution the League is m N.S.W. The takings are nearly five times that of the Wellington

Rugby Union. It also serves to remind one of the fallacy of endeavoring to coin,pare the prospects of the new code locally, as against that of the Ma v State. Two members of the Wellington League Union were m Palmerston N. last week using their influence and persuasive powers m certain directions with the object of establishing game m that Wowser-ridden, Bible-punching district. The result of the "explorers' " expedition has not transpired, but there is a reasonable expectation that the game will be launched this season.
