WICKS'S WORRIES.
Bothered By His Bondsmen. . . ._ . ... - if . A further development took place on Thursday of last, week m the case of Arthur Joseph' Wicks, chargewith absconding from. bail, on. which 'charge he was acquitted, when, m pursuance of a formal notice of the previous day's date which J. W. Salmon and C. A. G. de la Roche hady served on Wicks, Mr WG. Riddell', S.M., heard an application by them to be released from the recognisance of bail into which they had entered. Mr Kirkealdie admitted that itwas a revocable contract, and that. he could not oppose it. His Worship accordingly released the sureties, and held the accused to the same bail as before, namely, self -in £80, and two sureties of £40 each or one of £80:. - At the same sitting, fresh sureties were offered m the person of Gilbert Edward' Fownes, mercer, of 110 Rid-diford-street, Wellington South, and George John TFilrner, linotype operator at the Government Printing-of-fice, and now ' residing at 62 Sydney-, street, Wellington. His Worship decided to accept the former, but declined to accept the latter. Eventually, it was decided to. accept Fownes for the full amount. When the accused and' his new surety Went into the magistrate's room to sign the recognisance, Fownes repented of his undertaking and refused to sign. Wicks, being left without a surety, was then removed m custody to the Terrace Gaol.
