DUNEDIN NOTES.
D amp , dism al r ain put a successful damper on the game on Satiirday last, and as a consequence ail matches were declared off. To' while the time away ' most lovers of the sport went to their favorite pubibery and waited for the winners of I the New Zealand Cup ' and Stewards. Otago Association has affirmed its intention to have all. first grade matches played on a turf '.wicket, but is not going to enforce- it 'till the 1912-13 season on account of Opoho. Funny thing, but Opoho plays on the matting not having, a turf pitch, and .still . it walloped "all the other teams last season and holds the championship. Is this an argument m favor of matting versus turf ? ■ Good business. Otago Association is going to insist that all matches start at the advertised time of 2.15 p.m., and if any, tea,m doesn't take the field five minutes after ■ that hour the umpire has the power to award the match to' the pxinctual team.' This "■rule was 'badly wanted, as last season some teams arid players had a beautiful; - habit of strolling casually along about half, an hour late. The Association .might . with advantage cast its eagle eye on the length of some of , ' the intervals which some teams take. ". No interval shoiild last more \\" than one drink — either beer or tea.
