AN OLD OFFENDER.
Poor V.M.C.A. ! In the wars again. On Thursday last a young man named Henry Alfred Marshall called there on pretence of engaging a room. By some means or other :he gained access to the matron's ! room, where be appropriated her watch and a leather purse containing <ls m -'money and stamps, the total value of the property being £l 17s. • Subsequently Detective Kemp laid his Anger on the man and recovered the watch and the purse, but he said he had spent the money and thrown the stamps m the harbor. Marshall proved to be a very old offender, having served eleven sentences for false pretences and theft, and yesterday, Mr W. G. Riddell, S.M'.., dealt him out another .stretch" of three months.
