Once, when on his way to refer to some books m the Commons' Library, Keir Hardie was stopped by a policeman with, "Say, mate, where are you ofi to V" "To work," said the Socialist. "Arc you working there— where, on the roof '!" "No, on the floor," came, the accurate reply ; but the cop. was as obfuscated as before.
