Shikkhrs Plain and Ornamental.
As. a result probably o£ the Easter holidays and the consequent absence of the costs catchers, things were very slow m the Dunedin Police Court over Eastertide. Most days the charges were confined to plain, unvarnished drunks, although, now and again there turned up ; something of a more interesting character. On March 30 a variation was made by three fellows being charged with smashing their orders, and on March 31 two of the drunks were also charged with, obscene language. One of the snikkiirs on March 31 was named Ernest, Patterson, who* brought £o mind the Chinaman, m Otago, some time ago, who said bis name was Jock McPherson, Patterson being a tall Fijian, with the usual shiny; face, and mop of hair. Another victim of bibnlosity on March 31 was one Michael Monckton, who was apparently celebrating an anniversary, but got out mMs dates. He was previously before the court on April 3, 1908, and if he hadn't been m a hurry he could have made Ms re-appearance on - the same day as two years ago. John McGuire, a young man, who appeared m the dock m a heavy frieze overcoat, asked ifor a prohibition order before he entered his plea. He was, gives the order and a fine' of twenty shillings. ......
