j ■' . ♦ : - A Lad Lagged. A" youth' named Henry Joseph -Hand had a short but brilliant career of crime [down Dunedin way. He set out . by entering the railway bookstall at the Milton railway station on March 20 and ..commandeering 13s m money, 22 packets •of cigarettes and twelve boxes of 'matches. He then kept quiet . until the ,25th, when he again broke into the same place and purloined 61 packets of cigarettes ; but he made up for his rest by entering the shop of Jack Reid the same day and taking ten boxes of cartridges. .On the following day Hand "borrowed" a horse, saddle and bridle from Robert Ross. These he left somewhere, and was next seen at the Southbridge Road, Avhere he endeavored to prrab a handbag from the hatfd of Miss Elizabeth Brownley. a housekeeper, who was going along the road. 1-Jaiid was armed with a revolver, and bis fa.c was covered with a mnsk. When arrested by Detective Mitchell and Constable MeRac, of Milton, Hand was m the clutch of one William Graham. At the Milton Court, before Magistrate Bartholomew, Hand pleaded guilty to all i thr: ci'.-ir^e.s against him, and was committed for sentence.
