A complaint comes to "Truth" from G-isborne concerning the hard and heartless treatment of the navvies engaged on the public works m Jimmy Carroll's stronghold. Its' the usual trouble. Nig-ger-driving bosses who regard the men as dogs, and expects them to do v the maximum slavery at the minimum wage. The men are exploited m various ways. The bosses, of course, get the best of every deal, while the hard-used worker simply finds life hell; Surely there is somebody over u^ese slave-drivers, and, perhaps, Mr Carroll might interest himself, m the matter. Tliere's a sort of bo.otHna.lnng concern on the confines of Wellington which makes the eagle and the lion play speaks, as it were, while the whole caboose is run by an alien. T'other night a Maranui man, who was m a hurry, wanted a special sort of sandal slipper for his spouse, and not being able to get what he wanted took a pair of another breed on trial, paying os 6d down on the understanding that tne special sort of slipper would be procured from the warehouse. However, the slipper didn't transpire, and as the pair taken on trial Uid not fit, or something, that dago bootmaker won't come to light with the 3s 6d and gives cheek and says "go to hell" with a dago accent. Anyhow, it serves some people right lor bcinp taken down if siich snide shows arc r ''■•o«isfc ; . i
