John came before Mr Justice Cooper on Monday charged with that, being a married man, he did, on February 12, 1908, , at Wellington, go through the form of marriage with one Hanora Lynn. John pleaded guilty and for some unexplained reason said, that he was sorry for what he had done. He had.no means and could not engage counsel and he hoped his Honor would be lenient towards him.

ril, 1895. For the offence of bigamy he was some years ago sentenced to two years' imprisonment at Invercar gill. Then he had admitted having gone through the form of marriage with prosecutor. In all, prisoner had,, it -seemed, married Jour times. For failing to maintain- one ol the wdroen vhe was sentenced to one month's imprisonment, and for failing to support his real wife he had been imprisoned for six months. "All the women are alive'," added Mr Myers, amidstt laughter.
His Honor (to prisoner) : You seem to have a liking , for this kind of thing. The offence of bigamy is a very serious one. Not only have you committed an offence against the law, but you have done irreparable injury to an innocent woman. YOU ARE AN OLD BiIGAMIJ^E, .
and m the circumstances I will sentence you to a very substantial term of im- % prisohment. I will, sentence you to seven years' imprisonment. It will be a deterrent to others who may desire to take advantage of innocent women.
