Trentham's doings claimed my attention on Saturday, but provision had been made for the posting of reliable scouts m advantageous positions at the Miramar and Petone Rugby battlefields. Mcntiplay. Calcinai, and Tresize shone out. F. Gardiner, as wing forward, played a great game, and must be hard to beat for that position against the Englishmen. . A. Thomas. full-back for St. James, kicked well, but his movements generally were on the slow side. Fergusson, at centre threequarter, played a .good game, but did not get a chance to showing his attacking abilities owing to their forwards being beaten for the ball. H. Roberts iunr.. made his appearance .or St. James, and olayed a -useful game at five-eighths. He saved St. James repeatedly and his re-appearance should be welcomed by the Red and Whites. Bruce and "Rabbi" Wiehton wc-re the nick of the forwards. The latter is a fine line-out player. „ Donaldson, of the St. James team, had the misfortune to badly wrench his ankle In. the second spell.
