At the Oeo races, after the Forcedt Handicap had been declared no race on account of Jean's inconsistent running, the owner of Jean also owning; and riding the winner Himitangi, a number of people asked where tihe 'bridle came from ,tnat held Jean, as they would like to p;et one like it. The owner explained that -the mare could not ho ye won as the race was a furlong beyond her tiiistanoe. He iOffered to let the committee or the public find their own horseman and run the race again, and would bet £100 that > Jean cound not win. He looked confident on -the strength, of the £100, as it was a lot of money to have, on a course like Oeo, especially, when bookies would not go up to a tenner.
