Jessie McEwan, who likes a pleasing variety m names, and has been j diaguised under the illustrious pat- | rinymics of Harvey and Edwards, is \ i a leather-featured ' lady of weatherbeaten morals, who answered a charge of "idle and disorderly" at Wellington, Thursday. Jessie came out of durance on Monday, after a three months' exile from sin, and proceeded to- make up for lost time. Two constables had occasion to follow the lady with the stern eye of disapproval, and found that her liberation was the signal for a hot time m the old town on several nights.. Little Taranaki Street was the scene of dobauchery. Here one particular man m a cottage, who took her through a window, seemed to be the principal recipient of Jessie's exuberant love, but one evening she accosted a man who gave < her five shillings m an outburst of generosity, and apparently other men were seized with philanthropy when they met the wicked person, . /the hardness of whose dial was hidden by friendly darkness, when it was not altogether obscured by the fumes of many beers. .Jessie pleaded that, she had cash. When she. came out of quod, derived from the sale of her furniture, and her prolonged razzlo "was paid ior with her own money., She endeavoured to shake the evidence of one policeman, who is young but experienced, and made matters ■worse.' She was quite , willing to take on toil. The gaoler gave her an excellent character for graft. Magistrate Riddell : You have a peculiar Way of going about it. Jessie: Give me a/ chance. I'll take Out an order against myself this very morning. Police Prosecutor Phair put m a list of 38 previous convictions. Sentenced to a month^
