Wellington came near to gaining the services of Hector Kurk, the Ota-go and New, Zealand amateur champion half-aniler. He was offered a good appointment here, but declined the appointment and elected to set up m business on his own account m the city of "Maryatt" 'boomsters.
J. B. Taylor, the oelebrated colored middle-distance runner of the University of Pennsylvania, ran a surprisingly good race at the games of the Pastime Athletic Club at Madison Square, N.Y., on the evening of November 9. It was a 600 yards affair, and Taylor was opposed by Parsons, of Yale, and Hillman, of New York. Taylor won by a-bout <Lin with Hillman second and Parsons third, m limn 14sec. This equals the time made by Parsons m New York about a year ago. At the St. Patrick's Day sports m Sydney, Master Manning, a lad of 15 years and a half, m the running high jump cleared sft ?in with +'--» utmost possible ease.' His father, J. J.
