A man of many smells, a profligate of the best quality, named Richard Tubman, told a pretty lie at the Christchurch Court on Monday. He was charged with being an habitual drunkard under the brand new Act, and he asked to be released as he had undertaken contracts lasting over six months, and if he couldn't go on with them he would be on his beam ends. The old liar, who had a peeled nose and other facial ornaments, was shown to have 165 previous convictions against him and all the. work he did was when ,a warder had his neepers on him. Beak Bishop ordered Tubman to the Samaritan Home for a couple of years.
