THE IMMIGRANT TIDE
FURTHER RESTRICTION MAY BE ORDERED REDUCTION OF QUOTAS. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. WASHINGTON, January 9. President Coolidge has sent a report to the Senate, advocating that a reduction of 11,126 immigrants be made in the total annual quota after July Ist, by basing the quotas on the national origin of immigrants resident in 1926, instead of in 1890. The new system will give the Irish Free State a quota of 13,862, instead of 28,567, and Britain and Northern Ireland 73,039, instead of 34,007.
