PLACED ON THE “INDEX”
PARIS DAILY NEWSPAPER FOR CRITICISING THE POPE.
Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.
PARIS, January 9. The Pope, charging the Royalist daily “L’Action Francaise” with absence of respect for papal authority, and with an attitude of revolt and a scorn of the truth, has placed the newspaper and certain works of the editor (M. Maurras) upon the Index Expurgatorius. The Pope recalls that Pope Pius X. decided to ban the newspaper, but postponed action. He is now enforcing the ban, owing to its criticisms of the Pope’s approval of France’s peace policy, conveyed to President Doumergue on January Ist.
