In their first innings in the Sheffield Shield match, South Australia scored 345 (A. Richardson 189, ...McKay 17). Fox took two wickets for. 79. O’Brien five for 99, and Macartney two for 63. The weather was fine and hot. The wioket,. which had been flooded by rain during the week-end, quickly dried, but it was heavy and favoured the bowlers. Richardson, however, was out for runß, and treated the bowlers with the greatest freedom, while his partner, McKay, played for keeps and took 66 minutes to compile his score. Richardson had another let-off when his score was 153. Finally ho hit one from Macartney hard to cover-point, and O’Brien took a good catch. _ Richardson was hatting for 285 minutes, and hit 16 fours. His was a lively but lucky innings. The remaining wickets went cheaply. NEW SOUTH WALES GO CHEAPLY New South Wales in their first innings scored > 198 (Gwynne 43, Macartney 43, Kippax 32, Hogg 20, Morgan 28). McKay took four wickets for 32, Grimmott four for 70. South Australia in their second innings have scored 25 without loss (A. Richardson 20 not out). Macartney and Gwynne, in partnership, both put on the wood, Macartney being brilliant and knocking 15 runs off one over. His score was made in 42 minutes, and included four fours and one six. Kippax assisted Gwynne to bring 100 on the board in 75 minutes. Hogg and Morgan rattled up the runs, but with the dismissal of Hogg at 160 the howlers took charge and mowed down the wickets in quick time. At one stage McKay had three wickets for 13 to his credit.
