LEAGUE OF NATIONS APPLICATIONS FOR SEATS IRELAND’S AND AFRICA’S POSITIONS In commenting upon the League of Nations Conference at Geneva, at which he was present in the interests of New Zealand, Sir Francis Bell, who returned to Wellington on the Corinthic, said this was a delicate subject to discuss in public. He maintained, however, that the requests of .South Africa and Ireland for a seat on the League were not- received with favour by the Dominion. The position was that one seat could exercise power of veto; and this was not considered to be to the welfare of New- Zealand nor of the Empire.
