NEW TOBACCO FACTORY
LARGEST IN LONDON COMPLETION,IN EIGHTEEN MONTHS. Specially constructed towers are to be built to expedite work on a big £500,000 tobacco factory in Egyptian style, which is to be erected in London. Sir Robert McAlpine and Sons have been entrusted with the cofntrart, amounting to over £500,000, for the construction of the new factory for Messrs Carreras, cigarette and tobacco manufacturers, r.t Morningtcn crescent, Hampstead Heath, N.W. “Tne building will probably be the largest reinfoi'ced concrete structure in London, being 600 long and 200 feet wide, with the roof 75 feet above the pavement.” said an official of the contractors recently. “The total floor area will l»e nine acres.' ‘•The elevation of the building will Ik* striking, the fc.ce of the concrete being sf>ecially coloured by a patent process.” It is to be completed in months, which means very rapid construction for a building of this tvpc*. To enable this to bo done three specially constructed towers will he used for hoisting and shooting the concrete intsi nooition.
