Laughing audienoes at a Cardiff pantomime, applauding the vivacious humour of Lynda Martell, did not realise that there was a tragedy behind her performance. She was married a year ago to Lord Lyveden, and she received the news of his death ns. she entered the theatre for a matinoe. Although greatly distressed, . she performed her part without a hitch, and repeated her success at night. Lord Lyveden had a remarkable career. He was successively an actor, an artilleryman, a waiter in a New York eating-house, a steward on an American coastal vessel, a nurseryman who introduced a new tomato, an Army contractor, a caterer to a shipping company, a purser, a tourist agent, a lieutenant in the Royal Naval Reserve, a theatrical manager, and a variety artist. His father was 72 when ho married a pretty Hastings shop girl of 18.
