NEW YEAR EXCURSION
S.S. TAMAHINE’S TRIP TO THE MARLBOROUGH SOUNDS. The excursion .by ihe Tamahine this week-end to Picton and Pelorus Sound will commence on Saturday morning at nine o’clock instead of after lunch, and thus passengers will be able to see the regatta at Picton, or to go on a launch picnic to Ngakuta Bay reserve whioh has been arranged, and which will have additional attractions in fishing, bathing, and inspecting the ancient pit dwellings attributed to the Morions. On Saturday night the vessel will move sc mile or two down the Sound, communication with the wharf being maintained by launch, apd a dance will he held on deck. The next morning will be spent in Tennyson Inlet in Pelorus Sound, where the usual programme of fishing, boating, bathing and the bays, with a trip to Elaine Bay and a short walk to the Saddle to see the beauties of Oroisilles Harbour will be followed; while the clearing of an old track will give passengers an opportunity of getting in amongst magnificent bush, with great birches, rimus, and kahikateas, nikau palms, tree ferns, umbrella ferns, snake ferns and so forth. A call will be made at Ship Oove during the return in the afternoon to Picton, and Wellington should be reached a little after 9 p.m.
