FROM ANOTHER WAR

SOUTH AFRICAN VETERANS CHANGE IN CONSTITUTION. Proposals for tbo reconstruction of tbe internal operations of the Wellington South. African War Veterans* Association are-to be placed before the annual meeting to-morrow evening. This scheme is outlined in the report of the executive, which recommends the election of a committee on the group system basis. The city and suburbs will be divided into four groups:—l, Ilataitai, Kilbirnio, Lydll Bay, Miramar, Seatoun; 2, Newtown, Berhampo» e, Melrose, Island Bay; 3, Brooklyn, Karori, Kelburn; 4, City, Thorndon, Roseneath. The suggestion is to elect three members of the executive from each group, and each member elected will be expected to assume the duties of calling personally on each member in his district. By the adoption of this scheme, and the elected members doing their duty, it is hoped to get into touch with every member, and most important of all, to keep in touch with every member of the association. SICK COMRADES The struggles of tho active members of the association to help their lees fortunate comrades are revealed between the lines of the report, which contains the following passage : ‘'Members have visited the sick comrades at the public hospital each Sunday during the year, and volunteers will be called for this duty for the ensuing year at the annual meeting. Reports from comrades on hospital duty and from other sources have come before the executive of members and their dependents who are sadly in need of assistance, and tho mind of the executive haa been employed in an endeavour to establish a benevolent fund so as to be in a position to help members who have met with misfortune through sickness or other causes. Considerable time has been expended in an endeavour to run on art union for thifi purpose; in fact arrangements were made with the R.S.A. to launch a big joint art union on a 50-50 basis, but this was vetoed by recent legislation put when ready to make a start. "Anzac Day parade this year was one of the best public parades of S.A.V.’s ever held in Wellington, but not eo the South African Peaco Sunday parade, which was poorly attended. This no doubt is due to the fact that the dates of the commemoration of tho two days fall within a few weeks of each other, and the suggestion has been put forward that it may be wise to hold the later function on some Sunday further removed from Anz&c Day.”
