ALLEGED SWINDLE
BETTING ON RACEHORSES COURT CASE-S PENDING. Per Press Association. NEW PLYMOUTH. November 4. Allegations of a betting swindle on a large scale have been revived at Wnitara. Seme time ago proceedings wpro taken by O. R. Ulander against James Telfar. the plaintiff claiming £64 and alleging the defendant participated in a widespread and systematic scheme to defraud bookmakers by making bets after the result of a race wns known. Ulnnder’s claim wns discontinued after sensational allegations had been made. The latest development iB tlie issue; of a writ on behalf of Ernest Johnston claiming £l4B from Dennis George on the ground that, defendant made a bet with plaintiff that a horse, Our Jack, would win a certain race on July 10th. end that at the time tho defendant knew Our Jack had actually won tho race. To-daV another writ was filed on behalf of O. R. Ulnuder and P. J. Flannagan against James Telfar, claiming £62 on similar grounds. Tile claimants allege that they are taking proceedings not for personal gain, but as a protest against a swimdie. If the money is recovered it will lie paid to any charity named by the Mayor of Ne-.v Plymouth.
