A HOLIDAY ADVENTURE
As Bobby and Betty lay awake in their snug little beds they began to think what they could do next day, as they had begun their holidays. “Let’s go over to that little island that we saw yesterday,” said Bobby. Betty thought it a very good idea. So, after breakfast next morning, when the two little children had done their usual work, they told their mother they were going for a walk along the beach. They walked along until they came to a tiny punt, with just enough room for two. Bobby had been taught to row by his father, who was a fisherman. They got in, and with Bobby pulling hard at the oars they soon were heading for the small island for which they had set out to explore. After some time they reached the island, and, after tying their boat to a stake, they got out and began.to look about them. By this time it was just about time for dinner, and the children were feeling hungry. They picked a few berries, and after having eaten them they thought they would go further round and see what was there. After they had got tired of wandering around they thought they would return home. But they did not notice a man pushing their boat out to sea, so they wandered slowly down to the beach. But, alas! their boat was not there. Where had it gone? There was no one to answer their question, and so the twins could only sit and wait. Perhaps someone would come for them. Suddenly Betty jumped up. “Look,” she said, “there is a little boat away in the distance." Nearer came the boat, until the children could easily recognise it aa their father’s. They got in and were rowed safely back to land, where they; were very glad to see their mother .waiting for them. Stratford. NOLA DOWNEY.
