Considerable interest has been evinced in American maritime circles in tbo decision given in the Supreme Court recently. which practically sustains the age-old custom of burial at. sea. The action wa.s against the lioyai Mail- Steam Packet LotnDairy for .£2OOO damages each to Mrs Katherine Huff and five relatives because Mrs Huff’s husband was buried at sea without, her consent. Mr Huff had sought to improve bis health by an oeenn voyage, but had becorao worse, and had died aboard tlio ship. Tho officers of the vessel stated that there was no aiternative but burial at. sea. The jury failed to. reach an agreement, and the case was dismissed.
