WELLINGTON MEAT CO.
CHRISTCHURCH SHAREHOLDERS MEET PROTEST AGAINST GOVERNMENT ACTION. About 15 Christchurch shareholders in the Wellington Meat Export Company attended a meeting in the library of tho Chamber of Commerce. Mr Watkins, the acting-chairman of the company, presided, and made a statement regarding the company’s position on the snmo lines as the statement lie made at the meeting of shareholders held in Wellington on tho 6th instant. Ho put the position very clearly, beiu ; authorised to raise new capital. Ko was hopeful of the company’s future if the reorganisation scheme were given effect to. At the conclusion of the statement, Mr Watkins replied to a number if questions. After Mr Watkins had retired, the meeting discussed the action of tho Government in stepping in and stopping the «ale of the company’s works to Borthwick’s, comment being made regarding the Government’s action in allowing the sale of meat works at Gisborne to Vostey 6 and its opposite attitude towards the sale of the Wellington Meat Export Company’s works to Bovthwick’s. A motion was agreed to protesting against the Government interfering with the sale of the company’s works.
