AUSTRALIANS. RECORDS L A. ROSE’S TIMES RECOGNISED JNION MEETS IN BRISBANE By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. (Received August 16, 11.15 p.m.) BRISBANE, August 16. A conference of the Amateur Athletic Union of Australia and New Zealand was held to-day, and attended by delegates from all the States. Mr R. Coombes, who was reelected president, in -the chair. The following Australian and New Zealand records were passed;— Three-miles (running).—R. A. Rose (-N.Z.), 14min 45 l-ssec. Javelin.— S. A. Lay, 187 ft 7sin. One mile run. —R. A. Rose, 4min 13 3-ssec. 220yds (straight course). —Jackson Scholz (U.S.A.), 21 2-ssee. 100yds.—Jackson Scholz, 9 4-ssec. An application for a hammer-throw-ing record by J. AV. Merchant, established at Wellington, and rejected by the Hobart Conference, was reconsidered, and passed. It was decided to ask the New Zealand Athletic Association, if it is possible to hold the next Australian-New Zealand championships in December or early in January. A motion was passed asking the Austalian-New Zealand Union, if it is possible to arrange a tour of overseas athletes in the coming season. It was deoided to include a running hop, step and jump event in the champonship programme. The English Amateur Athletic Association is to be requested to set up a small body in England to establish a system of British Empire records. The reinstatement rules were amended, to , rovide that any cases may be declared "special” by a threefourths vote of an association, by reason of any unusual or exceptional circumstances, and may be referred to the executive of the union, which shall have power either to reinstate or to postpone or reject the application on such terms as the union thinks fit. Minor motions brought forward by New; Zealand were carried.
