YOUNG WOMEN’S LAPSES THEFT FROM LANDLADY PROBATION GIVEN WITH HESITAI'CY “I have the report of the probation officer before me, and with some hesitation she recommends probation. With some hesitation I grant it/' remarked Mr E. Page, S.M., at the Magistrate's Court yesterday morning, when two well-dressed young women. asrPd Ift and 19, appeared on remand for ientence. The facts of the case, as previously presented to the court, were that the two young women were addicted to drink, frequented cabarets and generally led immoral lives. Their behaviour had prompted a request from their landlady that they should remove their place of residence. They did so, but took along with them cushions, a fruit basket and other odds and ends that were not their property. The accused were admitted to probation for a period of two years, stipulations of their release being that their acquaintances are to be guided by the probation officer, and that they are not allowed out after nine o’clock at night without the consent of their parents. An application for the suppression of the from publication was granted, the magistrate explaining that, the accused were both young and he thought tho course was desirable.
