A NARROW ESCAPE
ELECTRIC LINESMAN INJURED Per Press Association. HaNNE VTItKE, August 16. The sudden cut-out of iMangahao electric power in Southern Hawke’s Bay Bhortly before 2 p.m. to-day, was duo to an accident to one of the Public Works Department’s men. W. Greig Was doing some repairs at the Rua Roa sub-station, when his foot slipped, and accidentally touched the 11,000 volt line. Fortunately the automatic protective switches at Rua Roa acted instantaneously, allowing the Victim to drop clear of the line into the safety belt. From this position he was rescued by R. Crump, official in charge of the sub-station, Who acted With courage and presence of mind. Crump, who was also engaged in repair Work, had to drop his load from the top of a pole, ns Greig was in great agony. The sufferer received prompt medical attention, and on being removed to hospital was quite conscious and able to converse. He is suffering from burns to the bands and face.
