SALVAGE OPERATIONS ABANDONED. The tugs hired for the salvage of the gold of the P. and O. liner Egypt, have been sent back to Saint Nazaire. It is understood that experiments at Genoa with the German diving apparatus, which it was proposed to use for the salvage operations, have not proved satisfactory, and that the idea of using it in waters which are generally rough where currents are violent has been given up, states a recent edition of the “Syren.” THE CANADIAN CRUISER. The Canadian Cruiser leaves Timaru on Wednesday for Dunedin, from which port -she leaves on August 21st for Wellington, due here on August 23rd, thence to Auckland, sailing finally from that pert on August 27th for New York, Boston, and Montreal. THE PORT CAMPBELL. The Port Campbell leaves Lyttelton to-night for Wellington to continue homeward loading, thence to Wanganui, sailing finally from Wanganui on August 23rd for London via Panama. THE CANADIAN EXPLORER. The Canadian Explorer, which left Montreal on July 29th for New Zealand, arrived at Panama at 1 a.m. on August 12th, and sailed' at 4 p.m. the same day in continuation of her voyage. THE ROTORUA AT ""aUCKLAND. The Rotorua, which left for Auckland at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, arrived at 9.30 a.m. on Friday. She is to leave for Napier on Saturday (N.Z.S. Co.) THE WIRRAL. The Wirral left Lyttelton at 11.50 a.m. yesterday for Dunedin, thence to Hobart to complete discharge. (N.Z.S. Co.) PAKEHA LEAVES GISBORNE. The Pakeha, which is loading at Wanganui, leaves there oil Thursday (August 19th) for Lyttelton and Wellington. The Sittang, after losing her propellor off the Otago Heads, was towed back to Fort Chalmers by a Harbour Board tug on Saturofy u-ternoon. She will go into dry dock to-day for overhaul and repairs. TAHITI FROM SYDNEY. After an uneventful trip from Sydney, the Union Company’s R.M.S. Tahiti arrived in the stream at 5 a.m. yesterday, and berthed at 9 a.m. at No. 1 South, Queen’s Wharf.
