The trial of Treffene and Coulter on the charge of murdering two detectives has commenced. It has aroused unprecedented public interest, and crowds are flocking to the court where hundreds are unable to gain admittance. Both men pleaded not guilty. They were charged only with murdering Inspector Walsh, the second charge, in connection with Detective Pitman, not being pressed. Evidence similar to that given in the lower court is being heard.
