DECISIVE VICTORY HOME TEAM TOO STRONG FOR VISITORS FINE GAME AND BIG CROWD Per Press Association. ' DUNEDIN, August 14. Otago met and -defeated Southland on the Carisbrooke ground on Saturday by 31 points to 11. The playing area, in spite of the recent rains, was in fine order, and the teams .took the field in -brilliant sunshine before an attendance of 12,000 people. Otago won tli© toss and Southland kicked off with the wind behind them and) the sun in their faces. Play rested in Otago ground until Hindenach dribbled to half way. The same player showed out in another dribble. Holden set Ida backs going, and Webb receiving made a hue run and scored between, the posts. Robinson converted. Otago 5 Southland U On resuming Hazlett led his forwards to the Otago twenty-five, and Bathgate kicked into touch. From the line-out Jackman went deep into the Southland twentyfive, and from here Holden set his backs going, and the ball went to Webb. STILL GOING STRONG After a period of play in neutral territory More and Lewis took play to the Southland line, where from a scrum Holden sent Morgan over on the blind side, and the winger ran round and scored between the posts. Robinson missed the kick. Otago 28, Southland 8. Otago set up another attack, but Hazlett came away at the head of a forward Tush, and although Jackman made a valiant attempt to save Cleland scored. Lilley missed. Otago 28, Southland 11. Otago came again, and Hindenach ran round to score near the posts. Burt missed the goal kick. Otago 31, Southland 11. The final whistle went with play in neutral territory. Otago 81 points, Southland 11 points.

At Carterton a keen struggle between Carterton and Gladstone seniors resulted in a win for Carterton by 13 to 6. At Featherston the Greytown seniors beat Featherston by 14 to 9.
