BURIED GOLD RECOVERED
Buried gold to the value of £4(3,000 was found recently on an American farm near Demopolis, Alabama. It wac. hidden there by General Nathan Whitfield at the time of the Civil War in 1865 to prevent its capture by the Union troops. General Whitfield’s eon recently discovered the key to the hidden treasure left by his father. He employed 20 negroes at digging for a week. The treasure was found buried in an old powder-barrel. It consists mainly of 20 and 50 dollar gold pieces minted in 1850.
