LETTERS

Dear Fairiel, The weather is a bit better now after all that rain. I did not go to school last Monday because it was too wet. There were a lot of floods. There is a creek about a mile away, and it was flooded; the water came right over the road. Our pony, Sammy, was very frightened, and tried to run away. The other ponies were a bit frightened too. I heard my sister reading out of the paper that there were lots of floods, and in Wanganui the river came over the streets and it w*as four feet from the bridge. Sammy is lame, and we had to walk home, and I suppose we will have to walk till he is better. I have pasted the picture, and I have put it in a book to dry. Well, I think I must close for this time. Love from Mollie. Mollie Winter, Maxwelltown. Dear Fairiel, I am sorry I did not write to you last week. We have postponed our concert until Friday week on account of the ’flu. It has been very wet to-day, so we did not play football at school but played hockey instead. I went to a birthday party last night. It was very jolly. The Cup final is to be played off here on Saturday between Pongaroa Blues and Pukehinau (black and white). My two sisters and I are the only people who have not had the ’flu in our room. For a week I was the only one in my group. Your loving Elf, Stafford.
