TRADES UNION LEADERSHIP SEAMEN MAY LEAVE LABOUR PARTY OBJECT TO POLITICAL LEVY By Telegraph.—Frees A ssn.—Copyright Australian and N.Z Cable Association. (Received July 23, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, July 23. Mr Havelock Wilson, speaking at tho annual meeting of the National Union of Seamen, uttered a warning against the undemocratic tendencies of the present trades union leadership, which, ho said, resulted in disastrous strikes being called without consulting members. Mr Wilson significantly declared that the majority of the union’s branches wer*3 demanding that the union cease its affiliation with the Lahour Party, but only a ballot of all the members could decide that question. If the members’ demands for exemption from the payment of tho political levy continued at the present rate, soon not a single member would pay it. The meeting, with only one dissentient, endorsed Mr Wilson’s striketime actions.
