HARRIERS

(By “Pacemaker.”) 5 __ To-day’s Fixtures.—Brooklyn, at ? Newtown; Hutt Valley, club cham■i pionshipsj Scottish, club cliampion--3 skips, at Miramar junction ; Welllng--3 ton, at Island Bay. 1 - To-day brings an important event 2 *or the Hutt Valley and Scottish > clubs, which are to run off their club 2 . championships, the former at Hutt I ark, and tho latter at Miramar junction. This race not only brings 1 out the individual talent, but also : is responsible for the final selection [ of the A and B teams for the Wel- : hngton provincial cross-country cham--1 .pionships. ' _ T -kf ar P ers w iH hear with regret that Mr \\. Donaldson, ex-runner and energetic worker for the Wellington • Club, is at present in hospital to un-> > dergo an operation necessitated by injuries received during the war. All . will wish him a speedy recovery. , 10-day the 7 Wellington Club will . hold their run at Island Bay, and not at Seatoun, as per syllabus. The Seatoun run will be held on August 14tli, when members and friends of 'the Hutt Valley Club wlTl be the t guests of the club. •All who intend spending the weekend in Masterton when the' provincial championships, are held there are advised to secure accommodation early 1 to avoid disappointment. ■| .The New Zealand Council has de- . cided to hold the New Zealand cross- ! country championships- at Auckland, and the date fixed is. September 4th. • This decision has come as a shock !to harrier clubs in Wellington. It ! is so long since Auckland possessed /a . harrier club that, southern runners j had forgotten that such a thing ever ! existed. The Wellington. Centre recommended Christchurch, which ■ had made application for the race to ■ •be run there, and it would seem to be a. far bot,tor plan t.o hold . the championships in a _pla.ee which for • many years past has supported, inters - provincial contests, than to run the j risk of holding it in a place where I the sport is not yet on its feet again. 1 The date and location of New Zealand cross-country championships should be decided early in the season, so as to enable centres to arrange finance ' and their syllabus accordingly. 1 Members of the Scottish Club are 1 asked to note that the club championship will be held at Miramar : terminus, ‘' ; as syllfibus. ;• j■*■ ? * l ; We should like to hear from Masterton, if they are not too busy arranging for the provincial champion- j 1 J, ships.
