BURNT SUGAR CAKES
You require to make these, half a pound of sultanas, half a pound of brown sugar, one pound of flour, half a pound of butter, one teaspoonful of carbonate of soda, a little nutmeg, candied peel and salt; two eggs and a gill of milk. Beat the butter into a cream, then add the sugar and beat well, sprinkling in the other ingredients. When this is done, add two beaten eggs, a gill of warm milk aria some burnt sugar colouring. When these ingredients have been thoroughly welded, bake in a moderate oven.
