The weather was threatening and the wicket soft when the Australians resumed at the wickets to-day against Derbyshire at Chesterfield. The Australians declared when five wickets had fallen for 373 runs. Derbyshire had lost two wickets for 55 runs in the second innings when the time came for “stumps,” and tho match was drawn. There was an attendance of about 4000. Richardson was careful and treated the bowling with more respect than it wairanted, but Woodfull was forceful, and did not hesitate to leave the crease. Richardson was badly missed in the slips when he had scored 35, and he then opened out and hit 6,4, 4, and 4 in one over off Townsend. His partnership with Woodfull yielded 85 in 52 minutes. Collins then decided to declare with five wickets down for 373 rung. DERBYSHIRE'S INNINGS Tho sun and a drying breeze made (lie wicket suitable to the bowlers when th« Derbyshire batsmen commenced their first strike. Everett was appreciably faster than in previous matches, and kept a consistent length. Lee played confidently and cut Mailey in fine stylo. He was a model of patience and followed the ball closely, bringing off many crisp shots. Storer was never comfortable, though he was good on the off-side, but lucky against Mailey. Crommelin-Brown raised the enthusiasm of the crowd a bit by hitting out, and his partnership with Storei produced 42 runs in 25 minutes. Elliott, when making a vigorous ondrive to the boundary, strained himself badly, and was obliged to retire. Derbyshii’o followed on, the batsmen playing defensively and being satisfied to try and keep their wickets intact. Grimmett bowled a good length and beat the batsmen repeatedly, and was unlucky not to obtain more wickets. The following are the detailed results : AUSTRALIA.
