PROTEST MADE TO POLICE
BY BILLIARDS PROPRIETORS A deputation representing practically all the billiard room proprietors of the city interviewed Inspector Rawle at tho District Police Office yesterday, and presented a petition asking that the police take action in connection with the game known as the “Roll Down.” The billiard-room proprietors, in the petition, contended that chance predominates in the “Roll Down,” and that the game had been prohibited both in Australia and United States. The facilities for playing the game in Wellington were injuring not only the billiards business, but business of every kind. Inspector Rawle assured the deputation that the police were fully aware of the scope and the nature of the “Roll Down” game, and the interests of the billiard-room proprietors would be looked after.
