CALEDONIAN SOCIETY

ANNUAL REPORT The annual report of the "Wellington Caledonian Society states that the outstanding feature of the year's work was the amalgamation of the Wellington Caledonian Society and the Scottish Society and Pipe Band of Wellington, which, after many years of negotiations, was carried into effect on July 24th last, with the result that the society had now a standing in the community that had lifted its activities to a higher plane, the society being officially recognised by the Government and municipal authorities, and other public bodies, in all matters pertaining to the welfare of the community The three Soccer clubs, Thistle, Scottish Wanderers, and Caledonians had also been merged under th© title of “Thistle," and was affiliated to the society. The activities of the society in the direction of immigration had considerably advanced, and with the assistance of the various societies in the Wellington district, Scottish migrants had been settled in good positions. The directors at the present time are negotiating for a Dominion-wide scheme which would be carried out when the National Federation was set up. Special thanks were due to the Government and particularly to Mr Thompson for their cooperation extended re immigration. The directors had drafted a proposed constitution for the federation of all Caledonian. Scottish Societies, Bums' Clubs, etc., throughout the Dominion, and were actively engaged in endeavouring to convene a Dominion conference to discuss and adopt the proposed constitution. The national dancing class had been carried on under the direction of Mr W. E. Boyd. The attendance had been steadily increasing throughout the year, and good progress had been shown by the juvenile dancers. A Caledonian troup of kilted scouts was being organised under Mr Wm. Kerr, who had been appointed scoutmaster, and it was hoped that during the next year the- troup would be fully equipped with uniforms. The following have been nominated as directors: —Messrs J.
